€100,000 grants for education in Leiria, Portugal.

Coastal and inland schools still rebuilding after the 2026 winter storms, in a district with persistent rural drop-out.

Applications open early 2027·Pupils in storm-damaged schools: 8,000+

Context

The Leiria district sits between Portugal's central coast and the interior mountains. Public education here is officially free, but in the rural municipalities — Pedrógão Grande, Figueiró dos Vinhos, Castanheira de Pera — distance, transport costs, and family economics keep secondary completion rates well below the national average.

The winter storms of early 2026 added a sharper, more visible problem: damaged classroom roofs, lost equipment, and several months of disrupted teaching. Most of that damage falls on schools that were already operating on thin margins.

The Foundation is interested in funding the small, practical pressure points — not the politics of national curricula, but the things that quietly decide whether a child finishes school: repairs, transport, family-cost relief, materials.

Funding priorities

What we'd fund in Portugal.

A non-exhaustive list. Bring us what your community needs and we will read the application carefully.

  • Storm-damage repairs at small rural primary and secondary schools.
  • Transport subsidies for pupils travelling more than 30 minutes each way.
  • Cost-of-attendance support — books, uniforms, meals — for low-income families.
  • Programmes that keep at-risk teenagers in school through the secondary transition.
