€100,000 grants for education in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.

One of the world's lowest literacy rates, compounded by school closures driven by regional insecurity.

Applications open early 2027·Adult literacy rate: ≈41%

Context

Bobo-Dioulasso is Burkina Faso's second-largest city, the cultural and educational hub of the south-west. It has so far been spared the closures that have shut more than five thousand schools elsewhere in the country since the security situation deteriorated, which makes it a quiet anchor for displaced children arriving from the north and east.

Even before the conflict, Burkina Faso's adult literacy rate sat around 41% — among the lowest in the world. For girls in rural areas the figure is lower still. Education here means basic literacy and numeracy first; everything else builds on top of it.

The Foundation is interested in organisations that have local credibility — community-run literacy circles, schools welcoming internally displaced children, libraries, and women's groups that combine livelihoods with adult literacy.
