Jodie 's Story My very first encounter with coding was in high school. However at the time, I brushed it off as something that I could not be interested in as I did not believe that I was analytical enough to succeed. As I’ve become surrounded by more and more women moving into the tech space and gained a little more knowledge on coding, this profession that I thought of as esoteric and exclusive to people with a brain wired a certain way has become more accessible. I think of it as something that could potentially open up a whole new world of possibilities rather than something to be scared of. The “behind the scenes” aspect of things like the functionality of an app or a self driving car is something that many of us have taken for granted simply because we lack the knowledge. However, my inquisitive nature has sparked my deep interest coding and I am very excited to learn about what goes into making these systems work. I’ve come to realise that if I give myself enough credit and put in the work i can achieve anything I put my mind to.

🙋‍♀️ Jodie 's Motivation

As we move deeper into the 4th industrial revolution, it is likely that technology will continue to progress to heights far beyond what I can currently imagine and because of this, I believe that it is crucial for me to equip myself with the skills that would make me better able to navigate the job market in an increasingly technological age. I have been struggling with what might be next for me and I am grateful to have found coding as I believe that not only will it allow me to to step outside of my comfort zone and challenge myself mentally, but it will give me access to opportunities that i did not think could be possible for me, bringing me one step closer to gaining financial freedom. I am particularly drawn to SheCodes because of their focus on building a network that supports a marginalised community and their proven success in empowering women like myself.

The Delac Foundation Mission

Women hold only 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less than men. In many developing countries, over 65% of women lack bank accounts, making it difficult to invest in their education.

The Delac Foundation is changing that. We provide women in developing countries with free coding education, equipping them with the skills to build a better future. In partnership with SheCodes, we offer training in product development, design, and management, empowering women to thrive in the tech industry.
